Environment America Campaigns for Clean Energy Economy

Environment America just announced that it will launch a $5.8 million campaign for a new clean energy economy. From their press release:

Over the next 3 months, the campaign will speak directly with more than 1 million citizens in 90 Congressional Districts about putting clean energy technologies to work to make the nation cleaner and more energy independent, release a series of reports documenting opportunities for clean energy solutions, and build a broad based coalition for investment in the clean energy green economy.

Bravo to Environment America for framing climate change as an opportunity -- to invest, to create new jobs, and to strengthen the economy:

Environment America's Clean Energy Green Economy Campaign will make the case that the United States has just begun to tap the potential of American ingenuity and technology.

The campaign will call on Congress to move to a clean energy future through a number of tactics that support renewable energy and efficiency, including:

Ensuring that large investments in clean, homegrown energy are part of any global warming bill.

We're glad to have allies in the investment-centered agenda. From here, we must work out the details on what exactly that investment should look like. What principles should guide investment in RD&D? Which technologies get funded at which stages of the process? Who will oversee and implement these programs? Stay tuned for more from Breakthrough on these questions in the coming weeks.
