Deforestation uptick raises questions about sustainable intensification
Marian Swain is a Senior Analyst at Breakthrough Institute. Marian joined Breakthrough after completing a Generation Fellowship in 2013. Her research focuses on land-use issues related to energy and agriculture. Current projects include quantifying the land footprint of energy production and examining the role of energy in resource substitution. She has written on environmental topics for Vox, Slate, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
Marian studied International Relations and German at Tufts University, researching and comparing US and German energy policy, especially the Energiewende and the shale gas revolution. Prior to joining Breakthrough, she worked in Berlin doing sustainability consulting on German government projects.
