Food and Agriculture Analyst
As Breakthrough’s Food and Agriculture Analyst, Dan performs quantitative research to analyze the environmental implications of agricultural practices, technologies, and policies. His research interests include identifying the effectiveness of various policies in reducing agriculture’s environmental impacts, particularly greenhouse gas emissions. He does this through econometric, spatial, and network data analysis.
Prior to coming to Breakthrough, Dan consulted for the Environmental Defense Fund, conducted research with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), and worked as a Policy and Research Analyst for the Farmers Market Coalition. He has been fortunate to travel for work to a diversity of places including the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Philippines, and Vietnam. He has a Masters of Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School where he researched California agricultural carbon sequestration and the air pollution implications of Cap-and-Trade. Dan earned his BA in Environmental Studies from Brown University and is originally from New York’s Hudson Valley. Out of the office, you can find him hiking the Berkeley hills, backpacking in the Sierras, and playing pick-up ultimate frisbee.
