Former Director of Public Affairs and Advocacy, Breakthrough Institute

Garrick Delzell was Breakthrough's Director of Public Affairs and Advocacy.

Starting as farmer and carpenter out of college and driven by a belief in humanity and human potential, Garrick found his way into advocacy and political work out a desire to cultivate a better world through elections and policy. He got his start as the on-the-ground lead for the reintroduction of the Mexican Gray Wolf in New Mexico and that work led to a 20-year career running electoral and advocacy campaigns. Garrick has managed and advised electoral campaigns up and down the ballot and was a Political Advisor for EMILY’s List. He was the founding Director of the Climate and Clean Energy Polling Consortium and the Strategy and Planning Director for the Climate Action Campaign where he designed advocacy and accountability campaigns for the campaign and its coalition members. In 2019 Garrick was brought in to create a new 501(c)4 paid communications organization in Wisconsin that laid the groundwork for a seismic shift in the state supreme court.

In addition to his work in electoral and advocacy campaigns, Garrick is a certified Executive Coach and has helped multiple non-profit organizations through capacity building and strategic planning. One of his proudest accomplishments outside of his family is raising the funds to build a shared-use commercial kitchen and food business incubator, the George Washington Carver Food Enterprise Center in Virginia, to support growers and food businesses in the area to develop finished products and help them get those goods to market.

Garrick studied Religious Studies with a focus on Buddhism and Eastern Religions at Bucknell University and received his certification in Leadership and Executive Coaching from Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership.
