RELEASE: Breakthrough Institute Statement in Support of NY Governor Hochul’s Approval of the Northeast Supply Enhancement Pipeline

Washington, D.C. — November 7, 2025 — The Breakthrough Institute supports the NY State government's decision to approve the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline.

"We need to build again in this country, even in the face of political opposition," according to Marc Levitt, Breakthrough's Director of Environmental Regulatory Reform.

"Expanding natural gas supply in New York and New England would alleviate the region's unique energy shortages, provide an alternative to dirtier fuel oil for residential and commercial heating, and supplement intermittent wind and solar power generation. To deploy clean energy and address climate change, America needs to end partisan warfare over energy deployment. We applaud Governor Hochul for taking a bold step in that direction."
