RELEASE: Climate and Energy Organizations Applaud New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s Approval of the Northeast Supply Enhancement Project

Washington, D.C. — December 9, 2025 — This morning, The Breakthrough Institute, Inclusive Abundance Action, Third Way, and Employ America released a joint letter applauding New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s recent decision to approve the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) project. The organizations cite the project’s potential to lower energy costs, strengthen energy reliability, and reduce emissions during New York’s long-term transition to zero-carbon energy.

The letter notes that NESE could save New Yorkers $6.5 billion in energy costs between 2028 and 2042, according to recent analysis, while also contributing to emissions reductions by alleviating downstate supply constraints and enabling substitution away from higher-emitting fuels.
