Breakthrough Fellowships

The Breakthrough Institute awards three types of fellowships that advance its research and global outreach efforts across its program areas. Engaging the brightest and most talented thinkers on issues related to energy, conservation, and other fields essential to the ecomodernist project, Breakthrough Fellowships foster diverse collaborations that address some of the major questions confronting society today. From recent college graduates to advanced scholars, our fellows form an integral part of the Breakthrough network and contribute in many ways to the ground-breaking scholarship that is at the forefront of our work.

Breakthrough Generation Fellowships foster the development of a new generation of thinkers and writers capable of finding pragmatic new solutions to today’s greatest challenges in the areas of energy, conservation, innovation, and human development.

Breakthrough Research Fellowships offer more advanced scholars the opportunity to pursue non-resident research collaborations that seek to change the way society approaches major environmental and development challenges.

Breakthrough Senior Fellows are leading thinkers, writers, and scholars in the study of society and the environment who collaborate with and advise Breakthrough research staff, serving as indispensable partners and champions of Breakthrough’s work.
