Michael Specter is a staff writer at The New Yorker. He has written about agriculture, biotechnology, and the world’s diminishing fresh water resources. Specter is a recipient of the Overseas Press Club’s Citation for Excellence and the James Beard Award. His 2009 book Denialism: How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress, Harms the Planet, and Threatens Our Lives received the Robert P. Balles Annual Prize in Critical Thinking.
