It's Time for Congress to Invest in Agricultural R&D

Federal agricultural research and development is one of the best ways to empower farmers to produce more food on less land while also reducing inputs and emissions. But R&D can only accomplish so much without proper funding — and unfortunately, public funding for agricultural R&D in the US has sunk by 30% since its peak in 2002.

That needs to change, and Breakthrough's Caroline Grunewald and Dan Blaustein-Rejto said as much in their letter to the US Senate and House Committees on Agriculture last week. Together they laid out a set of recommendations that would leverage the President's infrastructure package in order to set agricultural R&D in the US up for success.
