Major infrastructure projects are essential to the provision of abundant and affordable energy, lowering carbon emissions that drive climate change, managing the nation’s forests to mitigate wildfire risk, mining and refining critical minerals and other commodities, and other strategic US policy priorities. If the U.S. environmental regulatory regime is to function as an effective tool for safeguarding the environment, policymakers and stakeholders alike must work to engineer a new process that supports–rather than hinders–the nation’s transition to a future of cleaner and more abundant energy and resources.
