Emma Kovak is a Senior Food and Agriculture Analyst at the Breakthrough Institute. Her work focuses on the environmental and social impacts of agricultural biotechnology and plant breeding. Emma earned her PhD in Plant Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
In addition to numerous Breakthrough analyses and reports, Emma has written for Trends in Plant Science, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, and The Hill. Emma and her work have been highlighted in The Washington Post, National Geographic, WIRED, New Scientist, and on Times Radio and the Talking Biotech podcast.
Emma joined the Breakthrough Institute as a Food and Agriculture Analyst in 2020. She loves spending time outside hiking, backpacking, gardening, and reading.
